Mac Compatibility Issues
If you are a general person that has an average level of knowledge when it comes to computers, then the one thing that you are most likely to know about Mac machines is that they have big compatibility issues. The average piece of software that you can run easily on your PC is not going to be guaranteed to run very well on a Mac machine and ultimately this can be a problem if you are a fan of a lot of the software that you have on your PC and at the same time are looking to switch to the Mac. While giving a full discourse on the different compatibility issues between PC software and Mac hardware would take forever, at the same time we can define a few groups of software and comment on the general compatibility you might encounter within that group.
Day-to-day applications: There are a number of different applications out there that people use in their day to day lives and these are simply applications along the lines of word processors, e-mail programs and a number of other pieces of software similar to those. Microsoft Office would be a good example of a set of day-to-day applications that people might be interested in using. These applications actually tend to generally enjoy the greatest amount of compatibility between Mac and PC machines and even if they do not chances are there is already Mac software available that will do the exact same thing. Since everyone needs these applications, there is big incentive for software companies to make them universally compatible.
Games: In stark contrast to the day-to-day applications, games tend to have very poor compatibility between platforms on average; at least during the first release of the actual game. Blizzard, a very famous gaming company responsible for Diablo, Warcraft and Starcraft gaming series, is a company that has regularly followed the outline of releasing games initially for very specific platform and operating system requirements and then later on revising them in order to release them for Mac systems and a wider range of PC operating systems as well. However, Blizzard has the resources to be able to afford this; most companies do not even bother releasing Mac versions of their games and therefore if you are a fan of a specific company, you might be tied to a PC if you want to play their games.
